Interested in how "progressive" California is double-talking about being a "sanctuary"? See free pages of our e-booklet (below) about a set of federal cases where fed judges hid fact that a CA state judge had exiled an American citizen from CA's borders. The man was accused of misdemeanor trespass in CA state court. Undocumented immigrants accused of similar offenses are being given sanctuary. However, judge Ariadne Symons made him agree to leave the entire state in exchange for no jail time. When he later learned the arrangement was illegal and tried to return, she refused him entry back into the state.
Problem is, CA courts have ruled that the banishment of Americans is comparable to deportation of illegal immigrants, and is prohibited in exchange for state criminal offenses. After all, CA declared itself a "sanctuary state." But when the man later sued judge Symons for violating his constitutional and civil rights, the federal judges concealed the facts of the case. They protected her, and did not let the arrangement be known. But wait. Can California have it both ways? Undocumented immigrants are getting passes for low-level cases like trespass, and allowed to stay in the state with substantial safeguards. Simultaneously, CA is in the vanguard of the national scene, decrying deportation as immoral. Why no "sanctuary" for Americans?
